1962 knobs had a red dot on the top

The 1963s had a 6-cup knob without a red dot.

This dual heater control unit was used from 1964-66. The red knob controls the front heat and the white knob controls the rear heat.

1969 models have two black levers with black knobs, one on either side of the handbrake lever. The Beetle had the same part.
'67 to '68 models had the same levers except the knob on the right lever was red.
