Welp, it wasn’t a broken clutch cable. Turns out it was a broken throw-out bearing fork. Yikes! All better now.

Although, tonight my friend’s daughter (3 days after getting her license) backed into my driver’s side door. D’OH! Oh well…what can you do? I’ll buff it out and hopefully it won’t be TOO bad. I’m taking pix tomorrow.

This past weekend I went nuts and after giving it a bath I waxed it up with 100% pure carnuba. Wow…it’s shiny as heck now!

I got a number of compliments from random people on the streets. That’s a good sign!

Seem to have broken the clutch cable. Ugh…real hassle to replace apparently. You gotta give this one to the Type 2s, MUCH easier to work on in general.

Interior is done except: headliner, visors, trim around doorpanels.

Yesterday I removed everything from the dash in anticipation of doing a respray. I’m experimenting with trying to repair a top dash pad. Wish me luck! Also, ordering a full set of dash knobs from our man John Copello. Once I put it all back together with my nice new gauges…this will be sweet.

Well, for the 2004 Classic I did a couple more things. I had Jimmy Braxmeyer respray the front nose section to get rid of all the rock chips. Holy smokes…it looks amazing now!

Installed NOS turn signal bases, and once I got them wired up right they worked (and stopped blowing fuses like crazy).

Installed NOS foglight lenses. Looks MUCH better now, but still need to get the lights themselves to work.

All that and gave it a major detailing. I think I rubbed that damn car so hard a Genie should have popped out!

Jose has the car again. I also found some chrome trim pieces I thought were missing. Side chrome for the driver’s seat and chrome trim for the door panel.

I’d like to be able to respray the dash before the Classic…but I’m guessing that’s not going to happen. If it doesn’t sell there, I’ll do it later in the month.

This is going to be cutting it close for the show as it is!

The madness continues today…

Installed a very nice (NOS?) inner door latch to replace the old one that had a broken spring. Everett found this item and knew I needed it. Thanks Ev!

I noticed that the new one had “Huf” on it, but the one I pulled out did not. Not sure what logo was on the old one…I’ll get a photo at some point.

I also rewired the trailer hitch to insure the brake and turn signals work on the trailer this weekend. They do!

Well, while my 64 345 was down I had the 66 back for driving purposes. I’ve had it tuned up and all the brake hoses replaced. It stops on a dime now. Well…maybe a nickel. But pretty damn good for a 38 year old car!

I noticed some rust holes through the pan that didn’t get filled up with the POR-15. I put duct tape on the outside of the bigger ones and filled all the holes with JB Weld. I will POR-15 over the JB. Not a “forever” fix, but will certainly keep water out and rust away!

Car is going back to Jose tomorrow. Another upholstery note…when Jose stripped down the seats, he discovered original cloth centers on the seats! I’ve found a similar (although not 100% exact) pattern for replacement. Cloth will be SO nice in that black interior. It’s a nice tan center section (and rear seat). Can’t wait to see it done!

2 Thursdays ago I stripped the wheel drum spline (passenger side). Got car back from shop yesterday along with a tune-up it’s running great!

Today I went nuts…

Installed NOS speedo to replace what I thought was a broken one. Turns out the reverse light switch was what was broken. So, now I have a nice spare speedo!

Installed NOS rear trunk latch. Very shiny!

Installed new repro steering wheel from KGP&R. Wow…it’s extremely nice. Looks 100% original.

That’s it for today…maybe more tomorrow.

Dropped the car off with Jose for upholstery on Saturday. He stripped the seats and in the process discovered a cloth panel in the center of both fronts. Light tan with heat seams. So, I think that’s what I’m going for now. Cloth is so much nicer anyway, if there’s a hint that it was there originally I am going to run with it.

I dropped the seat frames off at the powder coaters today. $75 a seat…yeesh!

It should look pretty nice though!
